中国道路运输协会(以下简称“本会”)成立于1991年，由中国道路运输业及相关行业的企事业单位和团体自愿组成，是经国家交通部批准、民政部注册登记设立、具有法人资格的全国性社会团体，属行业性、非营利性组织。本会下设旅客运输、货物运输、危险货物运输、汽车驾驶员、道路运输站场、道路运输装备及安全节能、国际道路运输工作委员会和出租汽车与汽车租赁分会等八个专业工作机构及专家委员会，并设有《中国道路运输》期刊杂志社、中国道路运输协会运输研究所、中运新凌（北京）道路运输咨询有限公司三个直属单位。本会在理事会的直接领导和交通部、民政部的业务指导、监督管理下，以为中国道路运输行业提供服务为宗旨，按照《章程》依法组织和开展各项业务活动。
我国的道路运输业有着众多的从业人员，是国民经济的基础性支柱产业，在国民经济发展中发挥了重要作用。本会在全国范围内拥有众多以大中型道路运输企业和地方道路运输协会为主体的团体会员；是国际道路运输联合会的中国成员。本会各项业务工作坚持以社会主义经济建设为中心，按照“提供服务，反映诉求，规范行为”的要求，在行业发展和市场经济体制、精神文明建设中，充分发挥社会团体的组织、协调、服务功能，当好参谋和助手，发挥桥梁和纽带作用。
建会以来，本会始终坚持“双向服务”的宗旨，努力维护行业和全体会员的合法权益，为促进行业经济发展、技术进步、科学管理和学术研究服务，积极发挥行业自律作用，在促进道路运输行业的跨越式发展，更好地为全面建设小康社会服务方面做出了应有的贡献。特别是受政府委托或在政府的支持与指导下，本会承担和开展的“道路运输企业等级评定”、“交通部重点联系企业制度”、“全国道路运输企业百强发布”、“道路旅客运输经济运行动态监测”和“节能减排”等重点工作，在行业内外有着广泛的影响，为促进行业结构调整、企业“做强做大”，实现道路运输的跨越式发展发挥了积极的作用。2004年12月，本会获得了民政部授予的“全国先进民间组织”的荣誉称号。
China Road Transport Association (CRTA for short) was established in1991 and consisted of enterprises and organizations from the China road transport industry and relevant industries. Its foundation is ratified by Ministry of Communications and enrolled in Ministry of Civil Affairs. CRTA is a nationwide non-profit industrial social organization with legal personality. Under CRTA there are 8 committees for passenger transport, freight transport, carriage of dangerous goods, automobile driver, road transport station, road transport equipment and energy-saving, international road transport, taxi and automobile leasing and renting, and as well as three direct departments—China Road Transport Magazine, CRTA Research Institute of Transport and CRTA Xinling (Beijing) Road Transport Consulting Co., Ltd. Since its foundation, under the direction of the government and supervision of Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Civil Affairs, CRTA has legally operated its business activities according to its article and following the principle of serving China’s road transport industry.
The domestic road transport industry with a large amount of employees stands as the pillar industry of the national economy and plays an important part in the development of the national economy. CRTA has numerous group members all over the country among which large and medium road transport enterprises and local road transport associations remain dominant. Besides, CRTA is a member of International Road Union. Focusing on the central task of economic construction and following the rules of “services offering, needs reflecting and actions regulating”, the association fully stretches its organizational, communicational and service functions as a bridge and bonds in the industrial development and construction of both market economy and spiritual civilization.
Since the foundation of CRTA, the association has been always adhering to the tenet “serving in both-way”; defending the industrial and all members’ the legal rights; playing an active role in industrial self-discipline for promoting the industrial economic development, technical progress, scientific management and academic research; and contributing to comprehensively building a well-off society in pushing the road transport industry to develop in leap-forward way. Commissioned by the government or under the supports of the government, the association takes in charge of “Grade Estimation of Road Transport Enterprises”; “Main Contacting Enterprises System of Ministry of Communications”; “Promulgation of Top 100 Domestic Road transport Enterprises”; “Real Time Monitoring of Road Passenger Transport Economic Situation”; “Energy Saving and Emission Reducing” and etc. These tasks have extensive influences in the field. CRTA has always been playing an active role in accelerating the industrial restructuring, expanding and prospering the road transport enterprises and realizing the Great - leap - forward development of road transport service. All the steady and effective work won CRTA the honorary title of “National Excellent Civilian Organization” awarded by the Ministry of Civil Affair in December 2004.
